This is definitely not true! 2) Once booted in standalone mode, if I then proceed to plug in the DisplayPort connector then the kernel throws a backtrace - I'll upload this as a separate attachment. My best guess is that the freeze is related to trying to enumerate these non-existent DisplayPort outputs when starting X.
