Component and application are different terms for the same thing in NOX. To get NOX to do what you want, you should look at the components it ships with (particularly the switch ones). You may find it helpful to refer to the NOX-Classic wiki. A lot has changed in the newer versions of NOX, but it may still be useful for getting across some of the broad ideas.
