I dunno if he has as many "haters" as many would like to believe. I think
Prince is a brilliant artist but a horrible businessman. This is not an
uncommon thing. He claims to hate corporate entities and yet was at one point a
VP of A&R at Warner Brothers. Anyway, he says record companies are evil but he
does these deals with Motown and Columbia. And then he sells Controversy Music
to Universal for an unreal amount of money.

As was previously brought up, he went and sued (and had shut down) some of the
best sites dedicated to his catalog that there were, then started his own site,
which is now closed. So now, if I just got into Prince as a result of 3121,
I have to go to prince.org and listen to people refer to records that aren't
available. And so where do I go? To Warner Brothers' Ultimate Prince
collection. Whereas had he LEFT a couple of the other sites ALONE, he could
still be selling his downloads. Prince is a horrible businessman. Let's all
say it together, and let the healing begin. He is a genius artist, and his
songs sell well. But he's sold them all at this point. There aren't as many of
us loyal fans as there were before he changed his name, and that's to be
expected. We, the loyal and faithful 150,000, are the only ones who care at
this point. When Prince announced that Musicology was the last time he was
going to perform "the hits" live" (another silly business move), he
officially ended his relationship with fair weather fans. THEN he went to Los
Angeles, and that's how we ended up here.

He does this all the time.

Very soon he will announce a movie or something and the fair weather fans will
be back. And we, the loyal 150,000, will be ignored/sued/called fanatics
again.

I have to agree with Derek on this one. He doesn't worry over money. My
Gemini brother just seems to love pushing the envelope. He's a musical
genius with a bit of eccentricity with a twist (smile) He's really a caring
and sensitive human being. I had the pleasure of talking to him as a
Supervisor at the Sheraton in the 80s & while working for one his
production companies during that period. I'm sure he's reflecting some on
the financial as well as emotional ups and downs, but I believe he'll land
on his feet over time as the wounds heal and he re-news & re-invents that
fabulous personality of his, again. I just pray for his strength, wisdom,
and wish him well, because he still has "haters" in and around the
industry... just loving the opportunity to get their jabs in.

J

Okay everyone, yeah looks like he's having a nervous breakdown, I think
that
with 2 failed marriages, and his business being shakey he's finally
realizing
all the money he's invested into projects that didn't pay off his well as
he
thought they would. Think back, Mayte's "Child of the Sun, we all know he
lost
money on Larry Graham's cd.
I don't know how many of the cd singles he did with Angie Stone sold, does
anyone have a clue. He bought that Beautiful place in Marbella for Mayte',
how
much did he re-coup from the sale of that. He Built the house in Canada for
Mani, I know that cost a pretty penny. He did finance her business...so if
and
when the divorce goes through it's hers free and clear. He's always
improving on
Paisley Park, so as far as the land around there goes, that's a wait and
see.
The man may finally be looking at his books. Like an accountant, More money
going out than coming in. That's my take on what's happening.

<Moderator: If he was worried about money I don't think he would be
flubbing a record deal. I swear I sometimes think he is trying to get
himself black listed in the Record Industry. -Derek>
