It depends on the module you want to use. ns-2 has lot of modules and lot of work has been done using it. While ns-3 has some new modules and features, but the work on it is almost little compared to that on ns-2 here are the ns-3 modules: http://code.nsnam.org/?sort=lastchange If your work depends on some other work, check what he/she used before, if not, check the ns-3 modules list if it is sufficient for your work, else, use ns-2.
