Hi Raja,

For me, it took almost one year for me to fully understand and use NS-2, and
another 6 months to start create new protocol - with bad results (my
protocol did not work as it suppose to - lots of lost packets).  Most
probably because I had no one to guide me in using it.  My supervisor does
not know how to use NS-2, so, most of the time, I have to figure things by
myself.  But now, since I have some help from a postdoctoral student, it
take shorter time to figure out the problems I'm facing - just three weeks
to correct my protocol and ensure that it works as it supposed to. 

My advice, better find someone who really knew NS-2 to help you and shorten
the learning curve.  Mailing list can help you but not all the time.
