In all the comments made, I seem to be the only one who is heartily glad to see the N.Sp. being allowed to break away from their "traditional" role. Note, I have nothing against traditional music. I love Northumbrian music, but the pipes are such a fantastic, amazing and beautiful instrument that they deserve to be much better known. Come the day when their continuing development allows them to be a standard repetoire instrument, in the same way that the fiddle is no longer resticted to folk or medieval music but now encompasses all types of music from folk to calssical to jazz. How about a concerto for pipes and orchestra or modern jazz for pipes? Peter Dunn --
