Hello all,
I've encountered a very strange error today.
First I'll try to explain my setup and after that my problem.
I've got two machines, a server and a client. The server runs Debian Etch and
the client winXP-SP2
On the server are all my files on a RAID-1 NTFS volume, mounted with ntfs-3g
(ntfs-3g-0.20070102 - fuse 2.6.1). The files are served by samba 3.0.23d.
The problem started when I switched to ntfs-3g. There are no error messages in
the logs.
from syslog:
Jan 5 18:20:08 mistress5 kernel: fuse distribution version: 2.6.1
Jan 5 18:20:08 mistress5 ntfs-3g[14000]: Version 0.20070102-BETA
from fstab:
/dev/mapper/sil_agbidddeacca1 /mnt/raid ntfs-3g
rw,auto,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=022,locale=nl_NL.utf8 0 0
On the client I run activesync to sync my iPaq PDA with outlook on the client
and some files hosted on the Debian server.
Activesync complains that it can't sync certain files because they are ``read
only, or I've got no permission or the memory on de PDA is full''. It doesn't
complain about *all* files, just about the files that are smaller than approx
650 bytes.
The smaller files - that produce the errors - look similar with my hex-editor
and give me no errors at all, with any other application. (other than
activesync).
When hosted on ext3 and served with samba --> no errors
When stored locally on the client --> no errors
As stated before: in other apps --> no errors, hex-identical
Same volume served by winXP on the server machine --> no errors
Of course activesync might be a little buggy, but there is certainly something
going on here!
So: there seams to be a problem / feature with ntfs-3g that makes little (<650
bytes) files cause problems in activesync.
Can anybody help me here? Or tell me what's going on and why activesync is
behaving badly?
THanks,
Rein
