Seagate FreeAgent Desktop drives like to randomly power down what none of 
the file systems like very much. It could be also a kernel driver bug but 
people are reporting corruptions using different distros caused by this in 
increasing number since April.

This is a quite old BETA release. There were several improvements added 
which enable volumes to be mounted in your error situation. Upgrade to the 
latest release (see: http://ntfs-3g.org/releases.html) and I'm sure you 
will be able to mount.
