Hi, It is my pleasure to announce the beginning of beta-testing of an ntfs-3g version in which file ownership and access rights are supported.
It has been implemented with an outstanding support from Szaka in defining of the targeted features, helping for solving complex situations, improving test coverage and giving access to cvs repository facilities. My major thanks to him for the energy he has spent over these. Main features : - full support of Posix access control (provided users are in a single group) - interoperability with Windows access control - compatibility with standard ntfs-3g operation Detailed information, source files, and RPMs for Fedora are available on : http://pagesperso-orange.fr/b.andre/security.html I have been using a security version myself for three weeks now on all my NTFS partitions with no problem (five of them on two computers, one in 32-bit mode and one in 64-bit mode). There may however be problems which I am not aware of, despite my careful testing and help from Szaka, so, I recommend you backup your important data first, and you check the consistency of your NTFS partitions by starting the Windows chkdsk utility regularly. If you should run into a major problem, you can switch back to a standard ntfs-3g version : files created or modified by the version with security can be accessed by the standard version with no limitations. If you have any problem, please report on the project mailing list with detailed informations about the conditions in which the problem happened.
