'Yes. Libtool-2 installs m4 files into this directory, if this directory does not exist it fails. I also had to add "ACLOCAL_AMFLAGS = -I m4" to Makefile.am, and if the m4 directory does not exist it fails, this case for both versions. So the easiest way to support both modes is to provide this directory.
