There are several reasons but the biggest bottlenecks are already solved.
The highest streaming write performance ever measured (yesterday) was
889 MB/sec. Ext3 could do only under 700 MB/sec.
The code is planned to be released for public testing withing 1-2 months
(when other priorities, code quality, reliability allows). Jean-Pierre, or
any other NTFS-3G developer: if you're interested in review, testing then
please let me know and I'll send you the code.
