It might not be as you expected, but it is as it should be. How about this?

This should be bold/slanted: \XYZ/\infull{XYZ}. And it is.
\section{This ist not: \XYZ/\infull{XYZ}}
"bold" is defined this way, meaning that it avoids applying bold in headings:
