Wiping out the cache did the trick, I forgot about this step. After a fresh
install of ConTeXt, the specification files were indeed new...

I use FreeBSD, therefore manual installation seems to work best. So, are you
suggesting that if I place the bibliography specification files
(publ-imp-smp.{lua/mkvi}) in the 'texmf-local' directory, that they will be
automatically recognized at compile time? Or, so I need to specify that
location as a path to search for specification files?
