so, the unit key in \setuptabulate sets up the standard width
inbetween columns, but that is divided into two pieces, one after the
left column and one before the second. You can override the amount
that is inserted by i and j. So, in the second example the space
inserted after the first column is 0*unit, that is nothing; the space
before the second column is 3*unit, that is 6mm.
