Testing with the ruby one does not produce the problem. I guess it's a problem with the OS: in the thread the problem occured on OS X, and I've the trouble on a FreeBSD machine (and OS X is FreeBSD). BTW, sorry for that stupid question, but is there a safe or recommended way to install and use newtexexec? For testing I only did ruby /usr/local/share/texmf-local/scripts/context/ruby/newtexexec.rb try2.001.tex.
