I realy understand your point and you're certaily right, I'm too strict :-) ; let me just point out that since most people don't know the rules they expect their computer to know them. So you can say : be cool with the rules, let people do adjustment themselves, or make « hard » rules with the possibility to switch them off. I really don't know what's the better.
