Or is there perhaps another command (for example "\fromURL{}") that does
just this: "\useURL[dummy][http://my-url/]\from[dummy]";

Perhaps with alternative optional argument:
\fromURL[#1]{#2} = "\useURL[dummy][#2][][#1]\from[dummy]"
