Indeed, some quirk in the searchpath of my BBEdit editor, I found out. Got it 
now.

But there stays the question why the stand &---: patterns of XML are not 
standard set in the ConTeXt source.

I compared the two sources. The newer, not working version has:
        char-ent.lua, line 694: ["apos"] = "'", -- U+00027

Is it possible this (I see char-ent.lua being added) has ruined the previous 
behaviour?
