There is also no way to change the format of the default tabulation environment, only local changes are possible, e.g. \starttabulate[|l|pA{normal,hanging,hz,stretch}|] \NC align/tolerance not working \NC \input knuth \NC\NR \NC align/tolerance working \NC \input knuth \NC\NR \stoptabulate When you want a different default alignment you have to create your own tabulation environment with the \definetabulate command.
