The following code switches the font size for all the index content. Even
for group titles (letters), but it is beneficial here. The index title is
split to keep the original size.

\startbackmatter
\chapter{Index}
\start
\switchtobodyfont[8pt]
\placeindex
\stop
\stopbackmatter
