a MWE that shows your problem would be:

  \setupbodyfont[cursor]
  \starttext
  \startTEXpage[offset=1em]
  a ▸
  \stopTEXpage
  \stoptext

Latin Modern are the default fonts in ConTeXt.

BTW, TeX Gyre Cursor doesn’t seem to contain the character you mention.
