Dear Brian,

Thanks for fast response.

AS I just had the idea and I will "operate2 GUI of ntop, I have to ask our
System support, who are performing all changes.

They have promised clean CentOS 6, first of all, and then, probably clean 4.1.2.

Kind regards,
Vladan

As you can probably see, the system looks to have multiple versions of ntop now
installed.

Assuming you have built 4.1.0 in a seperate directory, I would do the following:

Do a make uninstall in the 4.1.2 build directory.
Do a make uninstall in the 4.1.0 build directory.

That should hopefully clean out ntop from your system.

I am not sure how you have built ntop, but I would recommend cleaning
everything out and starting again.

You could also look at removing all the ntop install directories, as that would
clean it out as well.

Also not sure what you use the CentOS VM for, besides trying to run ntop. If
you need it for something else, would it be possible to spin up a second clean
VM of CentOS 6, and try a clean build that way?

Thanks, Brien,

We have done exactly the same as below, but we have upgraded CentOS from 5.7 to
6, this is what is on the VM template.

During the work, we get this:
Tue Jan 17 14:53:15 2012 [plugin.c:107] **WARNING** Plugin 'cpacketPlugin.so'
discarded: compiled for a different ntop version Tue Jan 17 14:53:15 2012
[plugin.c:108] **WARNING** Expected ntop version '4.1.0', actual plugin ntop
version '4.1.2'.

Thanks,
Vladan

Vladan,

I have built a CentOS 6 VM, and was able to get the latest svn build of ntop
working.

Here is what I did.

1. Installed CentOS 6.0
2. Fully updated using "yum update" command
3. Installed the following packages:
    a. libpcap-devel
    b. gdbm-devel
    c. rrdtool-devel
    d. Added rpmforge repo to yum
    e. Installed geoip-devel
4. Ran the autogen.sh script in ntop directory.
5. Accepted the key permanently
6. Did a make
7. Did a make install
8. Created a user called ntop
9. Ran ntop (as root) using: sudo /usr/local/bin/ntop -u ntop
10. It built the defaults, asked for the admin password, and started running

I was able to access the web interface via 3000.

I am not quite sure how your system is different, but I hope this helps you out
a bit.

Vladan
are you able to debug ntop? I think that this is a simple issue to
reproduce on your PC, but probably a bit complicated on my system where
I have never been able to reproduce it
