To build NTop from the tarball, follow the instructions in docs/BUILD-NTOP.txt

 

I know it's not pretty, but the various libraries that may or may not be installed - libpng, libz, etc. are properly built and statically linked into Ntop that way.

Otherwise, I've posted a patch to the mailing list - look in the archive - to change the Makefile.in to look in /usr/lib for them...
