I am running ntop v.3.0.050 MT (SSL) on a RHEL AS 3u1 server.

Everything works except that when ntop is run as -u ntop no graphs appear- just broken images.

additionally all the pages with graphs generate errors like this:
Apr 29 15:59:59 moat-ng ntop[25648]: **WARNING** Unable to create temp. file (/tm).

I found an email with someone running MAC/OS who had the same problems- he said running with root made the graphs appear.

I tried and running with -u root the graphs appear perfectly BUT
running the command 'ls /tmp' causes ntop to exit as does performing a find or a locate on one of the graph filenames.

seeing also from that last post that the graphics were supposed to be made in /tmp, I guessed that there is only one thing slightly unusual about my /tmp directory - it is mounted noexec

I remounted /tmp with exec and now I can get graphs while running as a non root user

Unfortunately running 'ls /tmp' still crashes ntop-

I believe this is a very serious bug-
1) it is fairly common to mount /tmp noexec as a security precaution
2) it appears to be the default setting in mac/os
3) you can't expect people not to list their tmp directory

any ideas?
