Read the man page and also docs/FAQ - it discusses the -P option ... short answer, the -u user id needs to be able to read/write in that directory.

i'm newbie.
I newly configured ntop.
but when i use this command.....

ntop -i eth1,eth2 -M -d -g -m 192.168.0.0/24,192.168.1.0/24  -P /var/ntop

the output is...

When i  use
ntop -i "eth1,eth2" -M -d -g -m "192.168.0.0/24,192.168.1.0/24"  -P /usr/share/ntop
the out put is.....
