in essence you believe there's a but into rrd? If so, did you report
this problem to the RRD folks?

i´ve been trying to find out why my ntop installation always crashed
after a certain period of time
when opening the traffic-summary page. I eventually started to debug
my problem with builds
from version 3.3.6 and 3.3.7 on a centos 4.5 system with various
rrdtool versions (1.2.28 at compiling time).
Running "dbg" with the ntop process showed that there were no
options given to a function in rrd_graph.c line 3276
and a consequent break caused ntop to halt.
My workaround was to comment out line 4572 to 4583 in report.c which
creates the "Historical View"
in the traffic-summary page. Since then i had no more crashes
whatsoever.
This is just to let you know in case anyone else ever stumbles
across this bridge :).
