I had similar issues. I THINK I'm running libevent 2 something. It was a long time ago so now I'm not sure anymore. I also had to disable name resolution.

The test environment has only one router (Linux), two servers and a desktop. The ntop server in this test environment is a Slackware 13.0 PIII (800MHz) box with 1GB of RAM. I have already tried different versions of libevent, compiling with -O0 (suggestions I found through Googling), but had no success. Any better suggestions?
