You tried everything I wouldve. Since there are newer version I would say get
the source and compile on that machine. I *think* most of the build probs have
been resolved on *BSD.

Subject: [Ntop] FreeBSD and ntop - an unusual problem

All,

I'm running an instance of ntop on a box running FreeBSD 7.1-Release,
and recently upgraded ntop to 3.3.10_6, and find that there is no
display for the web interface.

/etc/rc.conf has the following entry:
ntop_flags="-d -u ntop -P /home/ntop/databases -K -L -t 6 -o -i em0 -m
192.168.8.0/24,192.168.9.0/24,192.168.10.0/24,192.168.11.0/24 -w
192.168.8.68:3000 -W 0 -D example.com"

As soon as ntop starts, it goes to this status in top:

PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND
     27333 root 2 97 0 61764K 39052K umtxn 1 0:00 0.00% ntop

Permissions on ntop:ntop on /home/ntop and /home/ntop/databases, which
is where it all resided before I upgraded, and the ntop user still
exists.

Since this is the only app the box runs, I took the liberty of doing
'pkg_delete -a' and doing a reinstallation of all ports from scratch,
which changed nothing.

I'm a bit confused, since a similar upgrade on both a 7.0-Stable box
and an 8.0-Release box went just fine, and the process is running
under the ntop user on both, as expected. I've even started it form
the console on the misbehaving box in two different ways:

     /usr/local/etc/rc.d/ntop start

and

   /usr/local/bin/ntop -d -u ntop -P /home/ntop/databases -K -L -t 6
-o -i em0 -m 192.168.8.0/24,192.168.9.0/24,192.168.10.0/24,192.168.11.0/24
-w 192.168.8.68:3000 -W 0 -D example.com

and in both cases it runs as root.

Anyone have a clue on how to fix this, or should I just scratch the
box and start over?

Kurt
