There's a pdf, Burton says it's still on SourceForge, that discusses persistent storage with ntop. It's a bit dated, but I think most all of it still applies.

The issue I am having is that NTOP by default only reflects usage continuously for the period it is running, and does not reflect any data from the previous session after a restart.
