Hi,
my network topology is somewhat this:

    ISP(Wan)------PfSenseRouter(Natter/Squid)---- (vf1)Subnet 192.168.5.0/24

|---------(vf2)Subnet 192.168.6.0/24

The PfSense router (based on BSD) routes traffic between the local
networks, and, as usual, does name translation over the ISP connection.

My first question is, how does ntop work when running on a gateway which
operates in this way?

I have installed Ntop but at the moment I'm not able to get statistics
about througput coming from remote to the local hosts.(received from local
hosts)
I have aslo tried to record network activity using rdd plugin.. it is
working for interface statistics but I am looking toward measuring activity
of single machines. E.g. I like see (and to persist with RRD) how much
bytes have transferred (received/sent) 192.168.5.4 today...
In RRD-Preferences, in Data to Dump, I have enabled "hosts" but it doesn't
work as expected:
For example, for interface 192.168.5.0 it records as hosts only the remote
peers, under
 /var/db/ntop/rrd/interfaces/vf1/hosts/

ntop/rdd is not going to creare any
/var/db/ntop/rrd/interfaces/vf1/hosts/192/169/5/4 , local peers recordings
are not collected... only related to other subnet or remote peers.

I think I have misunderstood the meaning of hosts (which I have interpreted
as local peers). what does host mean in this context? Are hosts the peers
outside the local subnet?

Question:

Has anyone here faced a similar configuration/topology problem, please
note, I'm looking towards logging the local machines network activity.
Can you please post guidelines or your ntop configuration and RRD plugin
configuration?
I need help :-)
Thanks in advance
