I am running ntop 5 since about September last year and do observe that ntop seems to end in more or less regular intervals. I tried to upgrade from time to time to the then current version in svn, but the behaviour is unchanged.

To check for the reason I started ntop such that it would dump core if it terminated abnormally. I verified that it indeed dumps core by sending a signal to the process. As I never got a core file I have to assume that ntop ends normally. That happens since several months now already after successfully running for 10 +- 1 days.

I do record both the free space and the load on the server. The typical pattern is that the machine has a fairly low load. Several hours befor ntop stops working the load is rising from below one to 10..15. At the same time the free space (which had a flat distribution) starts dropping by approx 50 MB. Finally ntop5 ends, the load returns to normal as well as the free space.

I do attach the load distribution plot. Is there any explanation what is going on? Should I send my config or can I test something else? The log files do not show any trace of ntop related errors.
