Thanks!!!  So those screen shots I saw with all those columbs of sent/received packets and their source/destination hosts was from the web page, not the vt100 terminal...  Hmm, what kind of UNIX tool can't be used from the CLI...

Nope... with v2, ntop is the collector and web server - the web page *is* the output.  Sniffying is the last output one would expect to see unless the trace flag is set.

Basically - but understandably - your expectation is wrong...  unfortunately, the overview page on http://www.ntop.org is outdated (v1.3) and doesn't reflect the new version.

Intop is a cut down version, but hasn't been brought up to full functionality.  I'm not surprised it doesn't run...

Subject: [Ntop] ntop on VT100

I just installed the ntop package for Solaris 2.8 and when I type ntop, this is what I get in my SSH terminal window:

bash-2.05# ntop

ntop v.1.3.1 MT [sparc-sun-solaris2.8] listening on [eri0,eri0:0].

Copyright 1998-2000 by Luca Deri <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Get the freshest ntop from http://www.ntop.org/

Initialising...

Loading plugins (if any)...

WARNING: Unable to find the plugins/ directory.

Waiting for HTTP connections on port 3000...

Sniffying...

intop> sniff -i eri0

starting sniffer on eri0 (with no filter enabled)...

intop@eri0> top

Error opening terminal: vt100.

bash-2.05#

Isn't ntop supposed to show everything it is sniffing in real time like top?  I don't want to run a web server to look at the data.  When I type "ntop", it says it is sniffing, but I don't see any columbs of data...  When I type "intop" and try to get stuff interactively, the program errors out when I type top.  Am I missing something or am I wrong in my expectation that ntop will display sniffed network connections in real time in a VT100 terminal window?

Thanks to whomever can help me out.

- Jonathan
