Are you running as root? If you don't have root or equivalent, when ntop tries to open the NIC in promiscuous mode, you'll see that message. That should be caught and you shouldn't get to opening the NIC, but I wanted to be sure...
Are you using a filter (-B option)? If so, does the same filter work with tcpdump - it should, but that's something else to eliminate... otherwise, post the command line and the syslog extract before and after this message, so we can see the whole of the startup messages, etc. -----Burton -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Devon Harding - GTHLA Sent: Monday, April 15, 2002 8:54 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: [Ntop] console error I keep geting these errors loogin to console after installing 4/12 snapshot: linux socket: Operation not permitted -Devon _______________________________________________ Ntop mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://listmanager.unipi.it/mailman/listinfo/ntop _______________________________________________ Ntop mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://listmanager.unipi.it/mailman/listinfo/ntop
