ntop does not sample. It processes every packet it sees and counts them.
Throughput measurement is over 1m. This is rolled up to 1h and then 1d..
The various internal updates are on timers from 30s to 5m IIRC - look for
createThread in the source. The throughput calc is this one:
initialize.c: 620 createThread(&myGlobals.dbUpdateThreadId,
updateDBHostsTrafficLoop,
NULL);

-r | --refresh-time
Specifies the delay (in seconds) between screen updates (the
default is 3 sec�
onds). If the -l flag is used, it specifies how often entries are
logged in the
log file. Please note that if the delay is very short (1 second
for instance),
ntop might not be able to process all the network traffic.
