All:

After a week of testing, I will be rolling the new ./configure scripts into
production this afternoon (US Central Time, GMT -6 hours). After the
nightly snapshot is taken (Midnight in Pisa, GMT +1 hour), I will also roll
the version #s to 2.1.52 and post 2.1.51 to SourceForge.

The announcement message to ntop-dev is here:
http://lists.ntop.org/pipermail/ntop-dev/2002-October/001534.html

Short version:
==============
1. We have new configure / make scripts for all platforms EXCEPT MinGW.
These are a total rewrite - expect some problems.

2. Recognizing that the gnu loader favors .so (shared libraries) it finds in
the standard locations (e.g. listing in /etc/ld.so.conf under Linux, et al),
the new scripts will ignore your "instructions" if tools such as libpng are
found installed. Be aware that this can cause version mis-match problems if
you try and be too clever. The new scripts test for lots of things and then
figure out what it means for ntop. Problems and critical information are
listed in big "boxes". Read them...

3. The scripts work fine for me and I don't have any interest in further
tweaking for tweaking's sake.

4. autoconf 2.5x is REQUIRED. This means that you will also have to have
the associated versions of the other auto* tools (automake 1.5+ and libtool
1.4+).

Understand that I expect some issues from the new scripts - unfortunately,
the 224 people subscribed to ntop-dev have failed to extensively test them.
Well, that's not STRICTLY, true - they've been tested (usually for just ONE
./configure parameter list) in the following platforms:

FreeBSD 4.6.2
FreeBSD 4.7 (Stanley Hopcroft)
HP-UX 11 (partially tested by Falk Hayn)
Linux-RedHat7.2
Linux From Scratch3.0
Linux-Suse? (Peter Sinoros-Szabo)
MAC OS X (Darwin AND Jaguar) (Luca)
NetBSD 1.5.3 - single threaded only
Solaris 8 (Tony Nelson)

If you find problems, report them to the ntop-dev list. Make sure to give
your ./configure command, indicate where the various tools should have been
found, the versions of the tools you have and post the relevant portions of
config.log

A special thanks to Tony Nelson of Starpoint for providing resources for
testing and to SourceForge for providing the compile farm.
