I had same problem when I was trying to run ntop(latest) on FreeBSD 4.7.
You can read the detailed issue in one of the previous post on FreeBSD
issue.

Exactly the same issue, man page was working, top and left frame too but
not the middle frame. I rebooted the freebsd machine and problem went
away. I'm not sure if it was something I did before rebooting which
solved the problem because I was only messing with autoconf etc , and
apparently ntop was running fine since the database files were growing..
I don't have answer to problem but I share the experience, may be it
will help in some way!

-Hi,
-
-> Not a bloody clue :-( - I haven't heard of anyone running ntop in a
chroot
-jail. If libpcap will feed you the packets, it's an interesting idea.
->
-The 2 following files increase in size so I think libcap works:
-addressCache.db
-nsCache.db
-
-
-> Some questions and things to try.
->
-> 1. Do other, static pages work? man page is a good one to try.
-
-Man page works but it opens a new window.
-
->
-> 2. What about simpler dynamic ones? Say configuration??
-
-No it doesn't work, just does nothing!
-
->
-> 3. Try something more recent than July of last year. Like version
2.1.55
->
-
-Sorry my mistake, I am actually using the 31/01/03
-the latest available.
-
-> 4. If it's only pages w/ charts on them, are you sure you copied the
chart
-libraries into the jail?
-
-That's not only the page with charts on them. It is all the pages
except the
-man/help pages and the dump data in the maintenance section. I haven't
tested
-all
-the pages but none of them with data is displayed.
->
-> 5. Try loading that page directly, e.g. http://firewall:3000/
-> sortDataProtos.html some browsers have problems with the nested
framesets.
-
-It still doesn't work. I tried with Netscape 7.01 and Mozilla 1.3a/1.2
-
-> 6. STFW for stuff about chroot jails and socket() problems.
-
-The thing is ethereal and etherape work just fine. Just ntop has a
problem.
-I will continue to look into this problem, but if anyone has an idea,
please
-let me know!
-
-Cheers,
-Sylvain.
