Could it be an OLD version of libpcap? Or multiple versions (i.e. compiling against one and then linking against another)?
Or, based on this message... http://www.linux-mips.org/archives/linux-mips/2001-09/msg00163.html, sounds like you may need to override ntop's default options for the linker. That would require editing a couple lines in Makefile, but to what I haven't a clue.
