Have you checked on just what is using your CPU and Memory? Perhaps the box
was just working hard already and nTop is simply the proverbial straw that
broke the camel's back? It sounds like there is a lot going on for a box w/
just 512meg of RAM.
If that is the case, you can change up the architecture a bit. Run ntop on a
separate box on a mirrored switch port, perhaps. ALternatively, you could
run nProbe on your server and let it just send flows to an ntop elsewhere
(anywhere else) on your network for analysis and display.

I just install the NTOP 3.0 into my ClarkConnect(Redhat 9.0) server. It
was P4 2.8, 512MB, 80GB, 2 X NIC.
I only want to trace the following LAN traffic with historical data
(RRD) :-
1. total data download/upload
2. Mail
3. Http
When I put on the service, my CC server become slow, user can't check
their email and web surfing become slow. Can somebody advice me, which
option I should put it on and which option I should put it off so that my CC
server performance not much effected ?
