First run the install with a verbose logging switch to see exactly what had
access denied. If there’s no luck there then my recommendation is to baseline
systems to be as healthy as possible, by using three steps:

1. Chkdsk /f /v /r “OS/system disk”:

2. Full system file check “SFC /scannow”

3. Repair/salvage WMI or just simply update to Windows Management
Framework 4 which will do that and also give you PowerShell 4, much better
performance and more.

Only after that would I start chasing ghosts about the “access denied” errors.

There’s no installation log you can look at?

Subject: [NTSysADM] 2008 R2 64bit 0x80004005 when trying to install SP1

Has anyone encountered this error when trying to install SP1 on Server 2008 R2
64?
I have tried this fix listed for Windows 7
1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\
2. In the right pane, right-click MaxNumFilters, and then click Modify.
3. Select the Base Decimal option, change the value to decimal 14,
I have removed McAfee
I have logged in as local administrator
The install keeps failing with E_FAIL 0x80004005

Any suggestions on how to get this solved?

TIA
B
