Welcome, Matt! Since you are new, I would assume that this is an issue with boundaries/boundary groups. You should make sure that the client is within a boundary group that has a Distribution Point.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682083.aspx ConfigMgr is a very powerful product that can do a lot of things in a lot of different ways, like an oversized swiss army knife. This flexibility means there is a lot of complexity. Getting started is easiest by attending a training class (or CBTNuggets), and then building out an environment by following a guide (windows-noob.com or gerryhampsoncm.blogspot.com both have great guides) to build a lab environment that functions.
