OK.... I am a little new to the Windows 2000 arena and have what is
hopefully a simple question re: Emergency Repair Disks in Windows 2000. I
know the basic facts: the built in backup utility is used to create the
ERD, backup copies of registry files written to repair directory when
specified, diskette really contains no data other than config files, etc.
My question is this, other than boot sector checking, what good is the ERD
unless the copies of the registry contained in the Repair folder are kept up
to date? Seems to me to validate the ERD those files should be updated on a
regular basis. Is anyone aware of an automated method to generate these
files on say a daily basis without actually creating an ERD thhrough the NT
backup utility? I would like to find a way to automatically do this on
large numbers of remote servers daily and don't see re-creating the floppy
as an option. I am guessing s straight copy will not work because of open
file issues.
