That's a -very- common problem, especially with Toshiba notebooks
(however they use a point 'stick' type device). When the machine boots,
it is -supposed- to run a sort of calibration app that fixes that sort
of thing. Check with Dell for a patch of some sort.

Those touchpads are sometimes pretty sensitive to heat, like if you rest
your hands around it.  You might want to try temporarily disabling it to
see
if that is the problem (assuming you have a mouse or one of those
stick-type
controllers).

Have a strange problem.  The cursor on one of our laptops is drifting
Left=>Right 
for a while, then when I mess with the drivers, it will stop for a bit,
