Sept. 11, 2001 | With a new, terrifying act of terrorism being reported
almost every few minutes, it's difficult to tell exactly what has gone on.
But we know this much to be true:

The president is safe on Air Force 1. Authorities won't disclose his
location.

CIA headquarters in Langley, Va., has been evacuated.

The planes that crashed into the World Trade Center were both American
Airlines flights. One was a flight 11 Boston to Los Angeles flight, with 92
people on board; another was a flight from Washington Dulles airport, with
64 people aboard.

A United Airlines flight 93 from Newark, NJ to San Francisco crashed in
Pennsylvania. Another United flight has not been accounted for.

Both towers of the World Trade Center are gone. An airplane crashed into
each tower this morning just before 9 a.m. and then just after 9 a.m. EST.
One plane was reported to be a hijacked American Airlines 767 passenger
plane flying from Boston to New York. Unconfirmed reports have other bombs
going off in the towers. Now both 110-story towers have been reduced to
rubble.

Another airplane has crashed into the Pentagon, in Arlington, Va., just
outside of the nation's capital.

The State Department has reportedly been hit with a car bomb attack.

A 747 passenger plane crashed about 80 miles from the Pittsburgh area. No
more information about that crash is known.

All American airports have been closed; international flights destined for
the U.S. have been diverted to Canada. The White House, the Capitol and all
federal buildings in Washington have been evacuated. All federal buildings
across the country are in the process of being evacuated.

The United Nations has been evacuated in New York.

Debris from the World Trade Center explosion has apparently hit a
neighboring building, causing another explosion there.
