That's it, Sir! Microsoft Mail as the product was named, consists of a
folder structure, the "database", on any network share. This database is
called Workgroup Post Office (WGPO). The MS Mail client fetches messages
from the structure and publishes outgoing mail into the folders. Quite a
simple construction, and easy to corrupt or compromise ...

The WGPO Administrator as included in NT4's and W95's control panel is
used to administer the Post Office's users.

I used to have a comprehensive set of tools to administer my WGPO, e.g.
move users, watch mailbox sizes, check and defragment the structure, but
I left it at the company I worked for then :( I ran the WGPO built in
NT4SP3 and used PODiag and the other tools for MS Mail 3.5 - they worked
fine.

So I think we're talking about the same and please let me know where the
proper utilities are on the MS site if you find it out ...

Regards,
Nico Schulze

Just to make sure that we are both taLking about the same thing, the
mail product that I am using is that which comes native with Win95 and
NT 4.0. This is strictly a peer-to-peer mail service - not a "mail
server application" in any sense. As I recall, MS made a pre-Exchange
mail server application. Are these tools for this application?

Hi Michael,

Microsoft has the Post Office Diagnostics Tool (Q125245 for Vs2-3.2 or
Q134753 for V3.5) to check (and fix) MS Mail Databases. I don't remember
where to download the V3.5 utility but I had found it once somewhere at
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/mail.
