I've been doing some thinking. I work a lot with hardware failures and one
the most least thought of is hardware failure due to a processor or memory
bug. I've worked on boxes I couldn't get to connect to network though the
nic was found, installed and worked ok - all it could get was the std 169...
address. Replacing the cpu cured it twice. Other hardware related prob have
succesfully been cured this way. Don't know if this is the problem but cpu
is the heart :-) right ?

Hi!

I now has checked Veritas, there is no patch that relates to my problem.

There is nothing in the eventlog except from that the computer has
restartet from a "bugcheck".
I don't think it is a file request that causes it, the backup starts
with the C-drive, and
as mentioned, I have other servers that is with the same hardware, and
the same software installation, and they don't have the problem.
-I has done a chkdsk on the c-drive, nothing wrong.

Maybe I should try to escalate it at Veritas...

OK

As mentioned - you might need to look for at patch or upgrade to your
backup
software.
I'm sure you have examined your event log to see what is causing the
reboot
?
It's prob a file request that cause the box to reboot thou I cant figure
out
why

Frede

Hi!

Okay, I have mis-explanied...The backup is running on/from another
server,
the reboot occours then when the backupserver is going to take the
backup
of this server, 2-5 min. after starting it reboots.

Did I explain this good enough?

Hi!

Thanks for the answers until now, I have loadet i386kd, and it gives:

Which I still don't understand.
I have found out that 0x0000007f means something hardware error related,
but I
have other servers with precisly same configuration, same patches, same
bios, same drivers etc.
-The machine is a IBM 5500 M20, with ˝gb ram, serverraid v. 4,70, and

Check with Veritas for updates there are known issues with some ROC
chips (Raid on Chip) controllers and certain machines - I have seen this
random reboot occasionally.

You can load complete and kernel memory dumps with standard symbolic
debuggers
(such as I386kd.exe included with the Windows 2000 Support CD-ROM).

Subject: W2k server reboots

Hi!

I have some trouble with a W2k server that reboots everynight, when the
backup starts on it.
(Backup Exec v. 8.5)
I have the server fully patched up to date.
It gives a entry in the eventlog:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Save Dump
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 26-09-2001
Time: 01:13:54
User: N/A
Computer: xxxxxxxx
Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000007f
(0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000
[v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini092601-01.dmp.

Is it possible to read anything from the information in the above?
