Well, there are other manufacturers making them now. I support a few of them and have one until recently. Let me say that if you need laptop functions (full blown o/s) and want to be able to put it on your hip or in your bag this is the way to go. Its great for travelling since it has a dvd drive and the back props out like a dvd player. The slide out full keyboard is small, but a lot easier to use then say a WMP device. You get full installs like word/office, and with built in wifi and wlan your always connected with it.
The competitors are much less money since they arent sony but usually weigh a little more or have a little less horsepower. Dont forget it has a dock like a laptop so you can get full key/mouse/vga functions to it as well. Personally I thought it was a great admin tool/device but I wouldnt want to try to work for long periods of time on it. I've had this ability on just about any laptop I've owned. Just set the screen size to be larger than the max pixels of the physical display. Voila: Windows lets your "scroll".
