Yep. I will check that out, Michael. Thanks!

His machine account password may need to be reset. It sounds as if integrated auth isn't working properly. (see nltest and/or netdom.) Regards, Michael B. Smith Consultant and Exchange MVP http://TheEssentialExchange.com From: Mayo, Bill [mailto:bem...@pittcountync.gov] Sent: Wednesday, July 27, 2011 4:03 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Weird issue connecting to hidden share with Windows 7 I had a client contact me about a problem accessing a hidden share to which he has access (error was "you don't have permission to access..."). I checked the permissions and confirmed that: 1) he has file level permissions to the directory, and 2) he has share level permissions to the directory. He had no problem connecting to a similar share on a different server where the permissions were set exactly the same. Another person that is in the same group through which he has permissions had no problem connecting to the share. I had him reboot to no avail. I even rebooted the server in question to no avail. I went over and did a "net use" on his workstation. The hidden share in question was showing up in the list with a status of "OK". I did a "net use ... /delete" and confirmed it was removed from the list. I then tried to connect to the share again. Got the same error about not having permissions. Did a net use again and it was back in the list as "OK". I went through a few iterations of this with no progress. Finally, I issued the net use command passing his username (/username:domain\hisusername) and had him enter the password. After doing that, he was able to connect to the share. For giggles, I again deleted the entry from net use, and it reverted to the original behavior. Redoing the steps to authenticate explicitly with his username/password makes it work again. Making it even weirder, he never had a problem connecting to other, non-hidden shares on the same server (although, admittedly, different user groups are in effect). A piece of relevant information is that he was recently out of the office for a month, during which his username expired. However, he has been back several days and the computer has been rebooted and password changed. He doesn't have any other open connections to the server that I can see and said he doesn't have anything automated connecting to this server (he is our DBA and trustworthy in this regard). I tried searching for this, but my google-fu was weak. Has anybody seen anything like this with Windows 7? ~~~~~~~~~~ Bill Mayo Director of Infrastructure Pitt County MIS V:252-902-3831 F:252-830-6361 E:bem...@pittcountync.gov ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin
