Ken, thanks, that's excellent news - not actually looked at IIS7 yet, I just know that our general purpose web server needs to be rebuilt soon and as we have 2008 R2 licenses I figured it's going to be on 2008 R2.
Thanks again, Paul ________________________________ From: Ken Schaefer [k...@adopenstatic.com] Sent: 05 August 2011 5:21 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: .htaccess type tool for IIS? You're right it's not a huge deal and I guess it comes down to personal preference but to me, "Joe" doesn't need an account on the server, "Joe" just needs to be able to see a particular folder on a website, and for that something like iispassword seems a little neater than dealing with computer accounts and NTFS etc. Paul ________________________________ From: Joseph L. So why not make local accounts? What’s the difference if you make a user/group text file like in apache? Personally I think centralized user mgmt. is better? Has anyone any experience of anything that can restrict access to IIS directories without requiring Windows accounts/NTFS permissions please? I know of iispasswd which is similar to .htaccess on Apache, but beyond that I'd just be relying on whatever Google throws up rather than first-hand recommendations.
