Alternatively, use a Custom format to pad with zeros. For example,
if you have 5 digit numbers and you want them all to be padded with
leading zeros if they don't have 5 significant digits, apply a Custom
format of:
00000
Which approach is "better" depends on circumstances.
You can also use Custom formats for things like dashes in phone
numbers or SSNs, etc.
