at a customer site with multiple retail locations, each with local DNS but only CENTRALIZED WINS from the data center. They use local DNS to resolve 'server-a' as an alias to a server on the local subnet. Seeing weird behavior where the app may be using old NT compatible api calls for name resolution, occaisionaly returning a non-local IP which must be coming from WINS.
I know you can delete a WINS entry, but how can you prevent an entry from being created, or from returning any value ? This is a mixed 2003/2008 server environment, don't yet know the AD level ( 2008/2008r2 or what ?)
